Source Now available from any commercial nursery.
Quality Aromatic, somewhat acid, moderately sweet, very crisp, firm and juicy.

Fruit:
Size Medium. Clustered fruits may be smaller.
Surface Smooth with waxy bloom which takes a polish.
Ground Colour Light greenish yellow to cream, depending on maturity.
Over Colour Bright red blush covering much of the apple.
Flesh Colour White.
Harvest Season Late August to early September.
Storage Stores better than most cultivars in this season.
Strains None recognized.

Tree:
Vigour Vigourous. Appears to be hardy.
Habit Upright then drooping with fruiting similar to Cortland. Has terminal blossom habit as well.
Precocity Bears early and consistently increases without special attention.
Fruit Placement Mostly in clusters on shoot tipes, especially in young trees; some spurs later.
Bloom Period Early.
Pollination Sets heavily in mixed diploid blocks. Thinning by both spray and follow up hand thinning is often advisable.
Nutrition Average or moderate rates. Intolerant of low levels of Boron.
Crop Heavy cropper, though biennial. Often difficult to believe the volume with trees with so much blind wood.
Synchrony Reasonably good for an early cultivar but spot picking will greatly improve average fruit size and quality.
Adaptation Similar to McIntosh.
Disease Reaction Susceptible to powdery mildew, scab and fire blight.
Insect Reaction None of note. Because of high acid, fruit is somewhat less attacked by apple maggot than other early cultivars.
Rootstock No special features. Comments for Cortland apply.

Comments:
