Apple Farm Kid - Keegan

Name:  Keegan
Age:  6
County of residence: Kings County, Nova Scotia
Grade:  Primary
Extracurricular activities: I take swimming lessons and I am a Beaver!
What do you like most about living on an apple farm? I don't live on an apple farm but my Grampy is an apple farmer in Annapolis Royal and I visit a lot. What I like most about my visits is watching the farm machinery at work, especially when it is harvest season and the big bins of apples are moved around by the tractor.
What is your favorite thing to do on the farm?  I like riding in the cab with my Uncle while he mows the orchard, and I like playing in the gravel with my Tonka trucks!
What varieties of apples are grown on your farm?  They grow Vista Bella, Jerseymac, Gravenstein, Redfree, McIntosh, Cortland, Spartan, Empire, Red Delicious, Jonagold, Honeycrisp and Spy.
What is your favorite variety?  I don't really have a favourite variety, but my favorite way to eat apples is sliced up in a bowl with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on top. I also love apple pie!
Interesting or Funny Apple Story:  The spring I was born in 1996, my Grampy planted a new block of high density orchard. He named it the "Keegan Block" after me (every orchard has a name). This way he can easily remember how old the trees are. The "Keegan Block" has Red Delicious, Cortland and Spy apples, and every year I have my picture taken there so we can see how much me and the apple trees have grown!
Plans for the future:  I like Lego a lot. When I grow up, I think it would be neat to be a Lego designer. I could even create farm sets with tractors made from Lego!
