Apples A to Z

• A is for APPLE.  Always tasty and delicious, All year-round. Many Apples are grown right here in Nova Scotia.

is for BLOSSOM and also for BEE. After the Bees pollinate apple Blossoms, little apples start to grow.

is for CRISP, CRUNCH and CORTLAND. Crisp is how the apples feel in your mouth. Crunch is the noise a Crisp apple makes when you take a bite. Cortland apples taste great in salads and  applesauce.
D is for DELICIOUS, which is how apples taste. Did you know there are apples called Delicious?
E is for EAT and EMPIRE. Empire apples are ready to be Eaten in the winter, but you can Eat them almost all year-round.
F is for FRUIT growers. They are the men and women who plant and take care of Fruit trees. In Nova Scotia, Fruit growers have many apple trees and grow Fresh Nova Scotia apples.
G is for GRAVENSTEIN. They are ready to eat just after school starts. They can be reddish or Greenish in colour, but they always have a Great tangy flavour.
H is for HEALTHY. Apples are a fresh, Healthy snack for anyone, even a Horse.
I is for INSPECTOR and IDARED. The apple Inspector checks the apples to make sure they are just right for eating fresh. Idared apples are great for making apple crisp.
J is for JELLY, JAM and JUICE. Even though some apples don't get very red, they still add wonderful flavour to Jellies, Jams and Juices.
K is for KITCHEN. Every Kitchen should have some crisp, juicy apples in it. Does yours?
L is for LIMB and LEAVES. An apple tree needs healthy Limbs and Leaves to grow good apples.
M is for MOWER and MCINTOSH. There is a special Mower for cutting grass around apple trees without hurting them. McIntosh apples are juicy and MMMMM good!
N is for NURSERY. A Nursery is a special field where baby trees grow close together. They are given extra special care so they will grow into strong apple trees.
O is for ORCHARD. An Orchard is a special field where apple and Other fruit trees are grown. The trees are well cared for by the Orchard Owner.
P is for PIE and PERFUME. What a treat! Fresh apple Pie, right from the oven. Apple blossoms Perfume the air and make it smell Pretty.
Q is for QUALITY. The Quality of apples depends on how nice they look and taste. Nova Scotia apples have great Quality.
R is for RAIN, RIPE and RED. Apple trees and apples need Rain to grow well and stay healthy. Ripe apples are not always Red!
S is for SAUCE, SUN and SPARTAN. Applesauce is easy to make and tastes great at breakfast, lunch and Supper, and it also makes a tasty Snack. Apples need Sun to make them nice and Sweet. Spartan apples make good applesauce.
T is for TREE. Apples grow on Trees. Some are big or Tall, and some are small. One medium Tree can grow more apples than you could eat all year. Can you draw an apple tree?
U is for UNDER and UP. If you sit Under an apple tree and look Up, you will see the apples.
V is for VARIETY. Apples with different names are called varieties. They may look or taste different from each other. What is your favourite variety?
W is for WINTER and WORK. Winter is When the trees get a chance to have a rest. Apple trees don't have any leaves during the Winter. Apple growers Work year-round to grow our Wonderful apples.
X is for the X-TRA goodness and X-TRA freshness of Nova Scotia apples.
Y is for YELLOW. There are many kinds of Yellow apples and they are as Yummy as the red and green ones.
Z is for ZIP and ZAP. Eating apples will help you stay healthy and full of Zip and Zap.
