Nova Scotia Apple Timeline


1604: French settlers planted first apple tree at Port Royal.


1698: There were 1,548 apple trees in the Annapolis Valley.


1835: Charles R. Prescott introduced the Gravenstein variety to Nova Scotia.


1880: Began spraying with chemicals.


1930's: Over 25,000 acres grown; 8,000,000 bushels produced.


1940's: Began reducing chemical spraying by what would be later know as IPM.


1980's:


Present: Over 7500 acres grown; 2,500,000 bushels produced.
